Lauren a friend of mine asked me about internet protection. She came to the right person, having served in the US Military working in the IT field, security is our speciality.

Going with the basic's, and assuming that the operating system is a Microsoft Windows, Microsoft puts out some good information on their website. MS Security for Kids . On that site on the bottom of the page are more links to parental controls. This is a good pratice to setup a restricted account for the child to login to.

Another level of protection is with DNS. You can set up your router or your workstation with OpenDNS. If you setup your router then your whole network will default to the DNS settings. Note: This could be bypassed if the user has administrative rights on the workstation, so that is why logging into a restricted account helps with layered security practices.

Having trouble with all those passwords in this high tec world, well I use a password card Just remember to write down your index number found at the top of the card so if you had to look up your password card you would have a reference to do so. Low tec solution for a high technical world.

If you are savy enough to go forward with encryption, try True Crypt
